The new two-year Master's degree program in Scenic Design, with its two specializations Scenography and Costume Design, is based on an original curriculum and modeled after contemporary European schools that specialize in education in the field of scenic design.
The unique feature of the Scenic Design program is that it ensures the education of future scenic designers (scenographers and costume designers) for fields such as theatre, film, television, as well as other media like virtual production, video games, animated and experimental films, exhibitions, multidisciplinary projects, etc. This makes the program unique at the national level. Furthermore, this program treats Scenography and Costume Design as interconnected disciplines that together create the visual identity of a theatrical, audiovisual, or multimedia work.
What makes the Scenic Design program unique in Croatia, and even internationally, is its connection with other study programs that educate artists involved in theatre, film, television, and multimedia arts. Students of Scenography and Costume Design will have the opportunity to meet and collaborate with theatre and film directors, actors, dancers, choreographers, dramaturges, cinematographers, photographers, lighting designers, editors, and producers. In addition to practical assignments involving students from all study programs, ADU also provides theoretical education in the artistic fields of theatre, film, and music. The classes for the program are held in ADU's facilities, which include classrooms, a film studio, and two theatre halls.
The Scenic Design program is open to applicants who have completed any of the undergraduate education levels and have achieved a sufficient number of points during the additional admission process.
Alongside the full-time faculty members and authors of the program, Irena Sušac and Tanja Lacko, the Scenic Design program is taught by numerous external collaborators who are artists in the fields of theatre and film costume design and scenography, including Barbara Bourek, Zdravka Ivandija Kirigin, Željka Franulović, Željka Burić, Ivo Knezović, Ivan Veljača, Ana Savić Gecan, Ivana Zozoli Vargović, and others.
Upon completion of the Scenic Design Master's program, students are awarded the academic title Master of Scenic Design (mag. art.), confirming their possession of knowledge, skills, and artistic competencies in scenic design within the fields of stage and audiovisual arts, as well as in the broader area of multimedia projects.
